So you’re exploring SMS solutions. And you’ve come across Textedly.

But what is Textedly? How much does it cost? Is it worth it? Are there other competitors you should explore?

Where can you read Textedly reviews? What should you know before jumping in?

We’ll go through all of that in this article! That way, you can be armed with the knowledge you need to make an informed decision about whether or not you should move forward with Textedly.

Let’s jump into the world of texting…

What is Textedly?

Textedly is an SMS marketing platform that helps businesses reach audiences through text messaging.

Textedly was founded in 2015 and currently is located in Nashville and Los Angeles.

The company offers an online platform that’s “out of the box.” Through this online platform, users can manage a database of contacts and send out text messages in a way that’s scalable.

Textedly claims to be the patron for several prominent clients, such as Walmart, Peloton, GoDaddy, eBay, Tesla, FedEx, American Red Cross, Coca-Cola, and Disney.

The company primarily presents itself as a text marketing service, but their platform can be used to send any type of business SMS—whether that’s a marketing promo or a warning to construction workers that there’s bad weather in the area.

You may have simply found this article when looking to log in to an existing Textedly account.

Textedly reviews

Textedly has broadly positive reviews from major review sites—including TrustPilot, which seems to notoriously be home to negative reviewers.

Three of the most prominent reviews sites on which Textedly is featured include TrustPilot, G2, GetApp:

G2 summarizes the pros and cons the following way:

  • Pros:
    • Ease of use
    • Customer support
  • Cons:
    • Expensive
    • Missing or limited features

Here are some examples of positive reviews from each site:

I like how simple it is to send out mass texts using Textedly. You simply write your message and choose which contacts you would like to have it sent to. It allows you to create groups on the platform if your business has multiple business units, field vs office workers, etc. It also allows you to schedule texts ahead of time, so if you need something to go out Monday morning, you can schedule that the week before and it will send when you need it to. – Missy C.

Textedly makes getting the word out so super easy and quick! So easy and quick that w/in 2 minutes and brand new incentive or promotion can reach your entire audience from your cell phone while you are having lunch. This is a must do marketing for the very busy professional. I highly recommend this. – Anonymous

We like the simplicity of this product, and the ease of reaching multiple customers with a standard message. The automatic text replies are very useful. – Darlene P.

Here are some examples of negative reviews from each site:

You are not able to change ‘keywords’ once you have already labeled someone with it. Also, when you mass upload groups, not all their information gets transferred over (even if you do it like they advise you to do). I also think that it doesn't help if the admin unsubscribes someone, that the admin can't subscribe them again. It makes sense if the user unsubscribes themselves but if the admin unsubscribes, they should be allowed to resubscribe the user. – Anonymous

Textedly's customer service representatives are unhelpful and sluggish to reply. When they finally responded, it took days for my problem to be resolved, and their suggestions were ineffective. – Bethany Shelton

Textedly pricing

Like most SMS platform subscription services, Textedly’s plans are primarily based on how many messages you’d like to send per month. The plans also differ based on how many “keywords” you want to have.

(“Keywords” are specific words that you designate to be “text-in words.” When your audience texts in these words to the phone number assigned to your Textedly account, those audience members will be subscribed to your services and will start receiving your text messages.)

Plans

Textedly has 13 listed plans, plus a “custom” plan option. (Note that within each listed plan below you receive 20% more messaging credits if you pay on an annual basis rather than on a monthly basis.)

As noted in “additional fees” below, each plan gets an $8 surcharge added to it.

Additional fees

On top of the plan fees listed above, there are a few other fees you’ll need to be aware of:

  • Extra texts beyond your plan limits—$25 for every 500 messages
  • Extra keywords beyond your plan limits—$5 for every keyword
  • Account surcharge—$8/month
  • Additional teammates beyond just 1—$10/month per teammate

Annual vs. monthly

As mentioned (and as is typical with SaaS products), you have the option to pay monthly or annually.

The annual plans cost the same as the monthly plans but give you 20% more messaging credits, as seen in the list above.

Note that additional messages are $25 for every 500, so below is an estimate on potential savings you’d make if you choose the annual option versus the monthly options, if you ended up using the extra messages that you receive for free on each annual plan.

(The difference is found by subtracting the amount of messages in the annual plan minus the amount in the monthly plan, dividing that number by 500, and then rounding that number up to the nearest whole number. The final result is then found by multiplying that number by $25.)

Textedly potential limitations

While Textedly has a lot going for it and has overall positive customer reviews, there are a few potential limitations you’ll want to be aware of.

(That way, you can be informed so you can make a better decision about how you’d like to move forward.)

No mobile app

Textedly doesn’t have a mobile app, so there’s not an easy way to access your account on the go.

However, you can access your Textedly account on the go from your phone’s mobile web browser.

No SMS API

While many other SMS services offer an API that you can use to program your own messaging efforts, Textedly doesn’t appear to offer this.

For some consumers, this could actually be a gamechanger because they want to have the flexibility to create their own messaging processes.

For others, this lack of an API is no problem because they don’t have developers to implement API services anyway.

Limited keywords

Textedly plans have a limited amount of opt-in keywords you can use.

Additional keywords can be purchased at a rate of $5 per month.

This type of approach is somewhat common, but can still be limiting.

Limited users

Textedly plans only allow one user to have access to the account.

Additional users are $10 per month per user.

The number of allowed users (one) remains the same across all plans.

Many companies (especially larger companies) will have more than one person who needs access to managing the SMS account, so this limitation is something you’ll likely need to consider.

No demo

While most SMS platforms offer a live demo option for prospective customers, Textedly does not offer this (or at least it’s not easily accessible).

A lack of a demo will make evaluation difficult for some prospective users who might prefer to be shown how something works.

Textedly FAQ

Got other questions about Textedly?

Here are answers to some other common questions.

How to cancel Textedly?

To cancel Textedly, check for a cancellation option in your account settings. If there isn’t an option there, you can contact Textedly support in one of the following ways:

  • Email help@textedly.com
  • Call (855) 619-5441
  • Text (855) 944-0211
  • Live chat on the website

With whatever plan you’re on, as long as you cancel before your next renewal, you won’t be charged for another subscription term (whether monthly or annual).

If you cancel in the middle of an annual plan, there are not prorated refunds, so you’ll want to make sure that you only move forward with an annual plan if you’re sure that you want to commit for a year.

How does Textedly work?

Textedly allows you to manage a database of SMS contacts and send out mass text messages.

You can add contacts into your online database through various methods, such as manually adding them in, allowing them to opt in via text-in keywords, and providing web forms that people can fill out to sign up.

You can send out messages manually via the online dashboard, or by setting up automated drip campaigns or triggered automated messages.

How to use Textedly?

To use Textedly, you first need to create a free trial account on the website.

You’ll then be given access to 50 free messaging credits for 14 days, so you’ll be able to test everything out by logging into the online platform.

The high-level steps to using Textedly involve:

  • Logging in
  • Adding contacts into your Textedly database (there are a variety of ways to do this but one of the easiest is to import an existing list of contacts from a spreadsheet)
  • Scheduling or sending your messages to the desired recipients

Alternatively, you can set up automations, such as drip campaigns, within your online dashboard to send to recipients under conditions that you specify.

What are some Textedly alternatives?

There are many Textedly alternatives on the market.

In general you can’t go too wrong with any of the major service providers, but all have their own strengths and weaknesses.

The best way to evaluate is to get free trial accounts with the services you’re interested in and actually test out the products to see how they look and feel—that will give you a better idea of if they are services you want to move forward with.

Some Textedly alternatives include:

  • Mobile Text Alerts
  • EZ Texting
  • Twilio
  • SimpleTexting
  • Textmagic
  • ClickSend

How do I access the Textedly API?

Textedly does not have an API that they advertise.

They do provide an “API key” that you use to access the integration site Zapier, so you can create integrations through that service.

(Zapier is a site that allows you to set up integrations with thousands of apps without any coding required.)

How can I get a Textedly demo?

As far as we can tell, Textedly does not offer an easily accessible live demo.

You may need to contact sales to ask if they would give you a special demo.

Alternatively, you can view their online videos on YouTube for explanations and demonstrations on how the product works.

What are Textedly integrations?

Most of Textedly’s listed integrations are powered by Zapier (pronounced ZAP-ee-er). Zapier supports thousands of different kinds of services, including services such as:

  • Slack
  • Salesforce
  • HubSpot
  • Intercom
  • Pipedrive
  • Shopify
  • Mailchimp
  • Facebook
  • Google Sheets
  • Google Calendar

…and thousands of others.

To access the Zapier integrations you’ll need a Zapier account. (They do have a free plan which may or may not be feasible for you depending on your circumstances.)
